Archive: Child Computer Interaction - with a focus on autism (2008 - 2020)

Project Summary and Motivation

This project was retired during Covid, and had three overlapping foci:

  • Mobile-based interaction design and user testing

    • While it is highly likely that children under the age of 12 have used a mobile device in the U.S., there is a paucity of information to guide interaction designers and usability experts about how to design and test their mobile apps with children. This work (which due to Covid never progressed beyond a pilot study), was aimed to address this area.
  • Interactive technologies/toys designed for children/students who have autism

    • This research was aimed at giving parents, teachers and therapists useful information such as user ratings or alignment with the child’s interests when selecting technologies for the children in their care.
  • Correlates of active-video game use in children

    • This study was led by Kristen L. Schneider (Rosalind Franklin University) and Jocelyn Smith Carter (DePaul University); I acted as a consultant.
