Archive: Teaching Accessibility (2015 - 2019)

Project Summary and Motivation

The graduate human-computer interaction (HCI) accessibility class was the first course I taught at DePaul when joining the faculty in Fall 2010. I have taught it every Fall quarter since; it has grown in popularity and has had an enrollment waitlist since 2018.

(We are considering an additional section in Spring quarters.)

In this research, aiming to inform my own teaching about accessibility, I focused on:
  1. Understanding how others teach/have taught accessibility and their perspectives about teaching accessibility including the challenges they faced;
  2. Exploring the efficacy of documentaries (created by film students at DePaul) to teach about accessibility outside of the HCI program in the School of Computing.
